ProtonMail is the world's largest secure email service with over half a million users. The company, Proton Technologies AG (Switzerland), was founded in 2013 by scientists who met at CERN and MIT and were drawn together by a shared vision of a more secure and private Internet. Our core encrypted email service has users in over 120 countries, ranging from enterprises to journalists and activists. Protecting the right to privacy is a core company value, and our mission is to make private email easy to use.
Today, our core team also includes scientists from ETH Zurich, Caltech, and Harvard, and the company is a global leader in building secure and private online communication platforms. In addition to VMS, ProtonMail is also supported by the non-profit Fondation Genevoise pour l’Innovation Technologique (FONGIT) and Charles River Ventures
We have been working with VMS since the very beginning and our mentors have been key to our success. Our mentors helped us make some of our most important early hires and also helped introduce us to investors. At the start, we had no experience in running a company so the advice from VMS was crucial in helping us make the transition from idea to product to market success.
